Born in Havana, Cuba to a family of non-musicians, Ernesto showed early musical skills and began playing the flute when he was six. Through the years, he has performed with artists such as Nestor Torres, Orlando Maraca Valle, Chick Corea, Mark O’ Connor, Arturo Sandoval, Bobby McFerrin, and Gloria Estefan. He has recorded two solo albums, two PBS specials, and he was a part of the movie soundtrack for Despicable Me 2, produced by Pharrell Williams. Ernesto is currently an Adjunct Professor of Music at Miami Dade College. He is also pursuing a degree in Doctor of Musical Arts in Instrumental Performance with an emphasis in Music Business at the Frost School of Music. He has performed in Italy, Mexico, Grand Cayman, Nicaragua, Toronto, Cleveland, New York, Washington D.C., Las Vegas, Chicago, Charlotte, and New Orleans. Ernesto is endorsed by Gemeinhardt Musical Instruments, Co. He is a clinician and performer at state and national flute conventions, and gives flute master classes throughout the United States. He remains a Henry Mancini Fellow and maintains a balanced musical career as a classical/Latin performer, educator, and arranger.
